TOP DEALS ON XBOX 360 DEALS

Product Description

The game features an all new storyline but still manages to replicate most of the major scenes from the films, including the hotel-room capture of New York library ghost, Slimer, and the attack of the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Almost all of the original cast are involved, including all four Ghostbusters, the mayor, and even Walter Peck.

The game itself is mission based and has you catching ghosts with your proton packs and then manoeuvring them into a ghost trap–just like the movie. Whether thats enough to fill a whole game isnt clear, but the funny dialogue and celebrity voiceovers should help paper over any cracks.

  • Tools of the trade: Use all the same gadgets from the movies, including the iconic proton packs, particle throwers, the ghost-locating PKE meter, and Ecto-goggles.
  • Direct-to-game sequel: Bill Murray, Dan Akroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson all reprise their roles from the first two movies, and Akroyd and Ramis wrote the game’s story.
  • Nice day for a drive: Get behind the wheel of the iconic Ecto-1 vehicle from the movie and chase down the faster-moving ghosts.
  • He slimed me: The game features all the most famous ghosts from the first two movies, including Slimer, the terror dogs, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, and Vigo.
  • New York, New York: The highly detailed environments allow for plenty of collateral damage, as a special counter rates the carnage youre causing in dollar amounts.

Amazon.co.uk Review
Usually video game tie-ins are released at the same time as the movie they’re based on. Sometimes there can be short delay–but twenty years is something else. Ghostbusters never seems to age, though, with the new game a real labour of love for the developer.

Not all of the ghosts and locations will be recognisable from the movie
Some ghosts need to be destroyed–not caught
Getting slimed is all part of the fun when you’re a Ghostbuster
The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man is back for revenge

    May contain SPOILERS!

Bought this for my nephew for Christmas, until he then told me he wanted a Star Wars game, so kept it and decided to play it for myself, after about 1 hours play I started to become bored.

You start in the Ghostbusters base as a rookie, after a bit of chat etc. you and the other Ghostbusters venture off to investigate a disturbance at a nearby hotel, its actually slimer who has just been at the base which is strange, anyway, catching 1 ghost soon turns into catching about 8 in the hotel, all caught in the same way, catch them in your stream and slam them until their tired them trap them, over and over again…………..

Straight from the hotel you are onto the street after the Stay Puff Marshmallow man, who spawns more ghosts you have to catch in the same way, ghost after ghost, catch them in your stream then trap them in your trap or one on your car, again and again………

If you get knocked down, you simply get back up, if a team mate gets knocked down, you help them back up, can you die ? I don’t know, I didn’t.

At the end of a very long level you have to zap the marshmallow man to stop him climbing up the building you are on, this takes about 5 minutes to do, just by zapping him, he is not threat whatsoever, he falls and explodes, then thats the end of the level, about 1hr later.

My overall verdict after playing the first mission is that its a good kids game and they will enjoy it for a while, my nephew who played it was bored after 45 minutes of doing the same thing, don’t get me wrong its good to watch, but I think what would have been better instead of having extra long missions, if the Ghostbusters we called to each seperate incident and you had to get in your ghostbusters car and drive it looking for where the disturbance was, not just a cut scene with no interest for the player, in a way the game is more like watching a movie where all you have to do is catch the ghosts, you can’t venture off anywhere and do something different, you have to do what the game wants you to do, so there is no real replay value whatsoever !

I would wait until the game is reduced in price before buying it, its probably worth £15 not in the same price bracket as games like COD MW 2, unless you are a die hard Ghostbusters fan, which would be pretty weird !

(sorry for any contradictions or repetition in my review, but currently not got time to read through and vet it, so it will have to do for now, good luck)

Ghostbusters the video game has its faults, its short, a bit clunky in some places with slow down and lip-synch errors, but all this can be ignored because on the plus side, your getting an excellent, enjoyable, brilliant game.

set a few years after the second film you take the role of a new recruit, who is basically a guinea pig for the ghostbusters new equipment, and after a quick tutorial, your thrown into an excellent story, written by the ghostbusters cast! focusing around the occultist Ivo Shandor and his gozer cult (from the first film) the ghostbusters find themselves caught up in a new ‘the world is going to end’ adventure.

playing with the various proton pack goodies is the core of the game, as you start of with basic proton streams, up to bosun darts and good slime launchers, all of which handle well and destroy tha environment spectacularly! my personal favourite tho is using your PK meter (which puts you in first person) to find hidden cursed artifacts, or to scan ghosts to add to your Tobins spirit guide (another mainstay of the franchise.) which adds to the replay value significantly.

the game also contains many throwbacks and nods to the first two films, aswell as tying everything up, the story itself is really funny and plays out just like a film. the fact that the original cast return to voice the characters really takes it up a notch.

overall, one of my favourite games of 2009, and one that should belong on any gamers shelf, ghostbusters fan or not!

Our favourite ghost-busting quartet rejoin for another adventure of biblical proportions. Filled with laughs, action and drama (well…) this is a quality game. I’ve just completed it in one (long) sitting; not because it’s particularly short, just ’cause bustin’ makes me feel good!!

The gameplay steals a LOT of ‘now standard’ 3rd person shooter conventions, such as: being revived / having to revive others when hit, waves of generic types of npc (ghosts) spawning from a portal you can shut off, having a purchasable weapon upgrade system, and proton-versions of generic types of guns you’d expect to find in any shooter. However (and this is a BIG however), you’re a Ghostbuster, you’re wearing a proton pack, and that makes it AWESOME!

Graphics aren’t the best (apart from the pre-rendered cutscenes) and there are some bugs that need flattening (occasionally I needed to restart from a checkpoint ’cause the game broke) but these are minor details when compared to how much fun I had while playing.

Now to try the online content….

    Overview:

A good but generic 3rd person shooter that due to fantastic circumstance, voice-acting and script is simply brilliant. If you want a ‘fun’ game, this is for you. If you’re a Ghostbuster fan, get it now. Now!

  5. ive been waiting for this game for about 3 years when it was first anounced, back when it was a gta sandbox game

    and i am not dissapointed

i am a huge ghostbusters fan and this game did not let me down

i got it on christmas day and i love it, anyway, opinions, starting with cons

    cons

-the gameplay can be very samey all the time, i can see why people would get board

-sometimes the graphics can be a bit dated

-im not fond of the proton pack upgrades, i tend to use the origional beam

    pros

-it is very faithful to ghostbusters, with the same actors, and also it constantly feels like ghostbuster, with the script, ghosts, scenes, you can imagine them in the films, perfect. nothing seems out of place at all.

-the graphics are most of the time beautiful. when your in a dark place like the stay puft part of the game firing your proton pack and catching the ghosts it is an orgy for the eye. im glad it was on ps3 first, because i have not experienced the lag those ps3 playing monkeys complained about.

-the story (of what ive played so far) is excelent, the way they have found ways of bringing back old movies scenes without being exactly the same is wonderful

-blasting ghosts is fun, blasting the scenery and watching it all get destroyed is fun, capturing ghosts is fun and extreamly satisfying

people say it is the same, but what do you expect? they capture ghosts on the film, what do you expect from the game?you also spend time with the PKmeter looking for clues and items, and the puzzles are eeasy, but a few still make you think

im glad it didnt get relesed as a sandbox game, it would be a failure, riding from the HQ to where the ghosts were would be boring considering you wouldnt be able to run down pedestrians, shoot things, and obviously there wont be any/many ghosts around while driving. everybody who thinks this is the reason it fails, because its not a GTA/ghostbuster game, really think about would it work, the answser being NO

beautiful game, the best game based on a film i have every played, the only one tht feels like the film, truly amazing
